Yampa River 9-3-2010

Linda and I went to Steamboat Springs Colorado over the Labor Day weekend; we had a lot of fun walking around town and on the river trail, we tried some new places to eat and did a little fishing.

One day we rode the tram to a restaurant at the top of the ski resort for a delicious brunch.

This was my desert (fruit, shrimp, cocktail sauce, salmon, and a chocolate snack) after already eating shrimp, prime rib, eggs and hash browns. .

View from on top, the condo we stayed in can be seen in the next picture (click on picture to enlarge), upper left hand corner, across the street from the river.

The Yampa River runs right along the west side of town. There is a fly shop on the corner where you can buy a license, some flies and then walk across the street and fish. They have restored the river through town and next time I will give it a try.

We spent a couple of hours fishing Saturday on the Yampa River where Sarvice Creek comes in. I was able to catch a couple small rainbows. Linda wasn’t able to hook up, but her casts and drifts were fine.

After fishing by Sarvice Creek we drove up to the Stagecoach reservoir tail water where I fished for a couple of hours while Linda read a book. There were several large visible rainbows in the river (very frustrating), but I was only able to entice one to sample a fly, he made a quick run leaped twice and was off.

Right across the street from the condo there was some pretty nice looking water. The night we walked along the river trail there was a Caddis and Trico hatch, and we saw a few fish rising.
