Madison River 7-19-2011

With Dusty coming into town for a week Sam and I thought we would take him to the Madison river in Montana where he would have a chance to catch some bigger trout fly fishing. Sam's friend Dave also joined us. We arrived late Monday afternoon, and fished for a couple of hours.

Notice the caddisflies above the bush.
We caught a few fish before turning in for the night.

This is a picture of the camping area. We woke early, had a quick bowl of cold cereal, and were off to the fishing hole.

Here are some shots of the Madison running at about twice it's normal flows for this time of year.

We had a lot of fun catching Rainbows and Browns. Dusty caught his biggest trout ever on a fly rod (17-18 incher), but it slipped out of his hands before we could get a picture.

On the way home we went through West Yellowstone, and stopped and fished the South Fork of the Madison. It was a beautiful little stream, but didn't fish well for us, Dave caught one.

Watch for the upcoming Madison River video.
